The team at SBL have a passion for building and love turning your dream into a reality. Our ability to read plans and take note of the finer details shows through in our work, and our aim is to not only make the building process run smoothly, but also to make it fun and enjoyable.
Our clients always come first, and transparency is a must as we keep you informed every step of the way. Our entire team are very approachable and help create the core of what SBL is about.

Schaw Building Ltd has recently completed our new home architecturally designed by Simon Clarkson. Whilst it has taken 12 months to build it has been completed to the highest standards and Marcus and his team were very particular about attention to detail.
Marcus was never phased by any changes or alterations to finishing. His & Sarah's willingness to consult over any matter was so helpful.
Marcus and Sarah won our building contract due to their thorough and full disclosure of all costs which were very competitive. What is more, they kept to their contract price with no additional costs unless requested.
One year previous, Schaw Building came to our rescue at short notice to replace three bays of our hyspan implement shed which had been crushed by a large macrocarpa tree. This was finished in a timely manner by their very able and pleasant staff.

The attention to detail is critical, they have aimed to please us in all areas. The standard of their workmanship is excellent.

The team at Schaw Building Ltd has completed several building jobs for us on our sheep and cattle property at Wallingford.
These jobs have included the design and construction of our new outdoor deck with seat, internal renovations and most recently upgrading and renovating our farm shearer's quaters. All work has been quoted prior to commencement and we have always found the quotes to be extremely thorough, well presented and competitive.

What can we do for you?
We offer a free quote service and operate on an "open book" policy. We will be clear on costs from the outset, and we will help you manage your budget throughout the entire project.
We pride ourselves on our ability to completely manage your project for you. That means once you have your plans set out we can take care of the rest. You may want us to act as agents for your consent process, manage all sub-trades necessary for your project, even help you select things such as flooring or bathroom fittings. Because Marcus & Sarah are involved in every job, you're always dealing directly with the project managers. If getting plans drawn up isn't your thing we can step you through that also.
We ensure that once your project is underway, you will have a designated foreman for your job. This means you have a constant port of call, and he will be well supported by Marcus & Sarah. He'll also have one of our apprentices - all whom are in at least their 2nd year.
SBL's structure differs from traditional building companies, and because the team is well supported questions are answered quickly, sub-trades are managed efficiently and your project runs smoothly.

Our Team
Marcus Schaw - Owner
Marcus has been building for 14 years, with experience in NZ and abroad. He started SBL just over 6 years ago after realising his passion for perfection would be better suited to his own company.
Sarah Schaw - Owner
Sarah offers support to Marcus & the team with project management and administration. She has a degree in marketing and psychology and has worked in project management for 13 years.
Brendan Mackey - Foreman/Qualified
Brendan completed his apprenticeship with the NZ Army during which he was a builder & peace keeper in both East Timor & the Soloman Islands. Since joining us in 2014 he has become Marcus’ right hand man. Brendan has over 20 years building experience.
George Hendy - Qualified Carpenter
George joined us in January 2016. He has expansive knowledge in farm building and a great ability to make a job flow seamlessly. George manages our smaller jobs, and provides our apprentices with practical experience in a wide variety of building tasks.
Hamish Carroll - Foreman/Qualified
Hamish started his apprenticeship in 2002, completing it locally then moving to Australia. He joined the SBL team at the beginning of 2017. A CHB man through & through, he has a can do attitude & our clients best interests at heart - you will always be greeted with a smile.
Hamish Adam - 1st Year Qualified
Hamish graduated from uni with a Bachelor of Applied Science. He spent 8 years as a property valuer in NZ & Australia before realising his dream was to build the plans he was looking at. His keen eye for detail & his ability to read plans brings new strengths to SBL.
Hugo Schaw - 1st Year Qualified
Hugo joined our team at the end of Year 12. His attention to detail and can-do attitude makes Hugo an integral part of our team. Letting him compete in his chosen sport at an international level often means we have to miss his smiling face.
Shaun Mills - Apprentice
Shaun joined our team from Perth with a wealth of knowledge in the construction industry. A qualified gib stopper and carpet layer, we’re putting him to good use on the nail gun as well as other areas. Shaun has 18 years experience in the construction industry.
